- Post emergent crabgrass control
4) Late Summer Weed Control
- Check for any problems
5) Late Summer Fertilization
- Weed control
6) Late Fall Lawn Fertilization
Why It’s Important
- Fertilizing supplies nutrients needed during the high demands of the growing season.
- A vigorous and healthy lawn resists weeds.
- Proper nutrition protects your grass from pest infestations and helps it recover should one occur.
- A thriving lawn is more resilient to traffic.
- Proper pH is maintained in your soil for better root uptake of nutrients.
- Nitrogen is supplied for leaf and shoot growth and a deep green color.
- Phosphorous is provided for establishing seedlings and root growth.
- Potassium is given for greater tolerance to hot and cold weather and against wear.
- An application of fertilizer in the fall prepares your lawn for winter and speeds its recovery in the spring.
- Fertilizing establishes new lawns and maintains
established lawns.
Liming Your Grass
When you start to look at your lawn care this spring, try thinking about the soil a little more than just the grass blades. In addition to that, think organically. Lime is one of those important factors.
Lawns just will not grow properly if the soil is not in proper balance. In fact, most people only look at the grass, and not the foundation soil beneath. But in all reality, no lawn treatment will work well if the soil is off. That is where lime comes in, but only to reduce the acidity levels of your base soil. Most turf grasses grow best between pH 6.5 and pH 7.0. That is referred to as neutral and that is the target we are aiming for.
Keep in mind that lime is not a fertilizer product, but more of a
soil conditioner. Putting lime on your lawn is not going to make
it green and thick. It will, however, allow your other organic
products to do their jobs better.
Fertilizing Shrubs and Ornamental Trees
1) Spring deep root fertilzation
2) Early summer foliar fertilization
3) Summer foliar fertilization
4) Fall deep root fertilization
Benefits of Ornamental Tree/Shrub Fertilization
- Provides proper nutrients to soil that are lacking in an urban environment.
- Aerates root zone allowing water and air to the roots and allowing room for root expansion.
- Improves plant vigor reversing decline due to insect or disease damage, drought stress, lack of hardiness or culture damage.
- Promotes fuller growth giving plant a better appearance.
- Increases flower production.
Pre-Emergent Weed Control
Pre-emergent weed control involves the use of specific chemicals placed on or in the soil to reduce the germination of weed seeds. The pre-emergent materials used depend on the type of weeds to be controlled and the kinds, trees and ground covers in treatment areas.
Susceptible weed seeds are controlled for up to four months in ornamental settings. Effective applications occur before seed germination, usually early spring, summer and fall. Most shrubs and groundcovers are tolerant.
Disruption of the soil surface such as raking, digging, will break the barrier formed by the pre-emergent so beds should be cleaned up prior to application.
Under normal conditions you can expect 60 – 75% control of
susceptible weed species for up to four months. This can
represent substantial savings on weeding.
Insect Control For Ornamental Tree & Shrubs
An insect control program that can protect your landscape, against the damaging effects of destructive and dangerous insects.
Our insect control management program includes a thorough
inspection of your landscape by a trained professional, expert
diagnosis and treatment, as well as careful monitoring. Insects
usually attack Ornamental trees and shrubs that are in poor
health or under stress. Our first priority is to restore the health
of your ornamentals and shrubs so that they can naturally resist
insect infestation. Our insect control philosophy is to use low
impact methods and ingredients to minimize populations of
insects, while maintaining environmental sensibility.
Borers
Borers such as bronze birch can cause extensive damage by
feeding in the conductive tissues of the trunk and larger
branches. This feeding damage cuts off the supply of nutrients
and water to the canopy usually resulting in death of the tree.
Tick Control
Tick 1: Control of spring adults
Tick 2: Control of nymph stage
Tick 3: Control of summer adults
Tick 4: Control of overwintering adults
Tick control is important for protecting your family and pets
from exposure to lyme disease infected ticks. This treatment is
applied to the boundary zone between lawn areas and wooded
areas and is the preferred habitat of the deer tick. Control of
tick population in this area of your yard is vital because
according to published research, approximately 90% of deer
ticks on the property will be found in the boundary areas. We
advocate a tick control program.
Deer Repellent
With more deer living alongside us, deer adapt well to foraging
on our landscapes in all seasons. In winter when their food
supplies diminish they become more dependent on your
landscape. A deer spray program will help prevent deer from
eating your landscape.
Perimeter Insect Barrier Treatment
Perimeter insect control is a liquid application of insecticide designed to place a protective barrier around your home.
To help prevent infestation a barrier of soil four to six feet
around the structure, as well as two to three feet up the
foundation wall, is treated. These areas are where insects are
generally most active and where they may find entrance to
your home. Some of the insects controlled ants, bees,
carpenter ants, cockroaches, fleas, ticks, ect .
Advantages of Perimeter Insect Control
- Insects are controlled before they enter your home.
- Pesticide applications are made outside of your home not inside.
- Minimizes need for interior Pest control.
Lawn Core Aeration
Aeration is one of the most important things you can do for
your lawn. It is the process of removing thousands of plugs of
thatch and soil approximately 2 inches deep from the lawn to
improve soil aeration.
Benefits of Core Aeration
- Improves air exchange between the soil and the atmosphere.
- Enhances soil water uptake.
- Improves fertilizer uptake and use.
- Improves turf grass rooting.
- Reduces soil compaction.
- Enhances heat and drought stress tolerances.
- Improves resiliency and cushioning.
- Accelerates thatch break down.
Power Seeding
Power seeding will increase lawn density and improve the overall health and appearance of your yard. A thick lawn is the best defense against weeds.
Fall is the best time for seeding. Due to its warm days, cool nights and rainfall, grass seed sown in the fall can establish itself more quickly, due to reduced competition from broadleaf weeds.
